May 10 - Hiraeth is a Welsh word that translates roughly in to English as "a deep longing." Martha Burford and Jules Grimes are headed to Wales in late September on a pilgrimage "Discovering the Borders Within/Without: A Celtic Discovery in the Welsh Marches to Pilgrim Coastal Paths." “We are exploring deep longing and holy discovery. Led by the Very Rev. Tony Pompa (former Canon to the Ordinary, Diocese of Virginia and former Dean of Cathedral Church of the Nativity, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania), and Dr. Connie Andrejko, (neonatologist, Reiki Master, and certified Yoga instructor), the pilgrimage will include time at Tintern Abbey, Dora Abbey, Hereford Cathedral, Llanduff Cathedral, St. Illtud's Church, St. David's Church, and more!” Engage with Martha and Jules as they research and get psyched up about their travels! “We will share what we will be doing and things of interest about the places. We also promise to report back after we have soaked in all of this Celtic, breathtaking, historical, and deeply sacred experience.”

Call for Volunteers
Volunteers Needed: We currently have two paid nursery aides to provide childcare on Sunday during both the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services. Because the DIOSWVA requires two adults over 18 years of age for the nursery, the service cannot be provided if one is out. We are asking for volunteers to be available on an as needed basis. Training on the program "Protecting God's Children" is required. Please contact Lisa if you are interested in volunteering or contact James Keane with questions about the program.
Faith Works
Raymond Higgins, a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, has been meeting with local clergy and lay leaders in 12 congregations to explore forming an organization of faith based congregations to discern and act together on what God is calling us to do to support and empower vulnerable people in Rockbridge County. Come hear Raymond speak about Faith Works at the COC meeting on Tuesday, May 5 at 4:30 p.m. in the parish hall.

HomeLink Health
Ryan Good, is a sophomore at Washington & Lee. He recently started a local nonprofit, HomeLink Health(homelinkhealth.org), and they are partnering with the Rockbridge Area Transportation System (RATS) to support individuals in our community who cannot afford transportation to critical medical appointments.
They are hosting a Cinco de Mayo fundraiser, Fiesta for Fares, on Tuesday, May 5th at the Lexington Horse Center. Every dollar raised will go directly toward providing ride vouchers for low-income seniors and individuals with disabilities who need to reach essential care—such as dialysis, cancer treatment, and mental health services, but otherwise have no way of getting there.
This event is generously supported by local partners including Carilion Clinic, Cornerstone Bank, the Community Foundation of Rockbridge, Bath & Allegheny, Spencer Home Center, the Virginia Horse Center, Phi Kappa Psi, Sweet Treats Bakery, Chef’s Catering, and Kelly Nye Photography.
On September 1, 2026 at 4:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall, Ryan will be attending the Christian Outreach Committee meeting to talk about HomeLink Health. All are invited to come and hear him speak and to ask questions.
Project Horizon - Volunteers needed
Project Horizon is currently recruiting volunteers to support their mission of providing safety, advocacy, and resources for survivors of domestic and sexual violence in the Rockbridge community.
As Rockbridge County's only domestic violence shelter and 24-hour crisis hotline, their work depends on strong community partnerships. Since their founding in 1982 by a small group of dedicated local women, Project Horizon has grown to offer a wide range of free and confidential services, including a 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, counseling, outreach to underserved communities, and prevention education for youth from kindergarten through college.
Volunteers remain at the heart of this work. They support the hotline, assist in the office, help with shelter-related needs, contribute specialized skills (such as translation or creative projects), and partner with staff on outreach and community events.
Volunteers needed are: Day and evening volunteers to answer the hotline & connect callers with resources, engage with shelter residents, work with children's programs, help with community events, and partner on special programs & projects.
They are excited to invite new volunteers to their upcoming training beginning May 30th.
