Dear Friends,
There is a story in my family about two of my great grandparents arriving at their first rectory in Warsaw Virginia in 1873. My great grandfather referred to it as the capital of Po-land, a pun that depends on the Tidewater pronunciation of poor.
The story goes that when the man who had conveyed their furniture to the house was finished moving it all into the parish rectory my great grandmother, the keeper of the purse, had two ten dollar notes. She gave one to the mover and the other blew into the fire, at which she reportedly said, "Thank goodness we are delivered from the burden of wealth!"
This Sunday's gospel encourages us to trust in God for our well being, our inheritance, our provision for the future. It isn't easy to do. We are in constant competition to acquire more for ourselves, and in the process require more and more resources to preserve and protect our possessions. And yet, many of us would look back on the time of our life when we had nothing and judge it among the happiest.
Could it be true that our happiness would increase if we would follow the Lord's direction, sell all our possessions, give the proceeds to the poor, and trust in God, as our currency says we do?
With Gratitude,
Tuck Bowerfind (he/him)

Ceiling fans in the nave: Questions have been asked about using the ceiling fans in the nave during the summer months. Because they force the warm air that collects near the top of the nave downward, it negatively impacts the effectiveness of the air conditioning. Accordingly, the recommendation has been made to leave them off.

RARA Diaper Drive
RARA has a Diaper Drive going on now through August 6. Grace Episcopal is a drop off location! 1 in 2 households with young children struggle to afford the diapers necessary to keep their children clean, dry and healthy. Let's combat this issue together! Please bring the diapers you are donating to the Parish Office or bring to church on Sunday. All sizes are needed. You may also drop diapers off at RARA, 350 Spotswood Drive at the outside donation bin. If you would like to make a monetary donation online, click the link below. Thank you for your help!

The Saint John's Bible Returns
It was such a wonderful experience having The Gospels and Book of Acts with us. In mid-September, The Pentateuch volume of the Saint John's Bible will be arriving and staying with us up until Christmas. We are hoping that some of our parishioners might like to be involved with this second "visit". Please let Joanne Robblee know if you want to volunteer and attend an initial planning meeting.
If you have questions, please contact Joanne Robblee at joannerobblee@gmail.com.
Renewing Grace Capital Campaign
In an effort to share current information about the Renewing Grace Capital Campaign building project, in August there will be three opportunities for our parishioners to find out what the upcoming plans are as elements of this ambitious project begin over the next few months.
On three Sundays during August (10th, 17th and 31st) between the services, please join us for coffee hour down in the Parish Hall at 9:00. At about 9:20, Tuck or David Passmore will provide a brief overview of what will be happening over the coming months and years. Then there will be a tour of the building as to the specific renovations that will be occurring.
Many thanks to everyone who has made a pledge or gift to the Renewing Grace Campaign:

Clothes Closet at Christ Episcopal
The Clothes Closet at Christ Church, Buena Vista, continues to need girls' clothing sizes 10-18, winter clothes only and boys summer clothing, sizes 10-12. They are not accepting any other items at this time as they are chock full! The Clothes Closet is open every first and third Saturday of the month from 9 am until noon. You may drop your items off then. Alternately, you can bring your items to the Grace Church office and Lisa will ensure your items are conveyed to the Clothes Closet. Thank you for your support of this valuable asset to our community.
